Little Miss Wonderland

Picture
Otherwise known as Little Miss Wonderland around these parts.  She’s currently 2.5 years old and beginning to be quite the character!  If you were to meet Alice, the first thing she would do is stop and show you the outfit she was wearing.  She loves to show off her clothes, which maybe means she’s going to be a fashion designer when she gets older, who knows.  She’s getting to where she wants to pick out her own clothes and has been wearing daddy’s knit hat and brother’s fuzzy socks for at least 3 days now.  When I pointed out that maybe she’d like to change her outfit, she just giggled and said, “Nooooo….”.  So yeah.

She will then introduce you to her babydolls, which have names like Baby Violet and Baby Rose and Frog Baby.  She spends much of her time taking care of her babies; feeding them and pushing them in their double jogging stroller around the house.  She walks around with them in her arms muttering, “Shhh, shhhh… mama here.” while patting them on the back.

Little Miss absolutely loves her big brother and being anywhere near him.  He’s not always so keen on the idea, but more often than not they get along fairly well.  This morning, for instance, once they were ready to come downstairs and start our day, Alice walked up to Jack and asked for a hug, to which he obliged.  Her eyes lit up, “You’re my best big brother” she said.  He nonchalantly shrugged his little shoulders and said back to her, “Yeah, you’re my best friend.”

When she gets angry, she gives a little shout and then looks at you with a sideways stink eye that mainly makes me laugh more than anything.  When she doesn’t get what she wants, she pouts and then sometimes even puts herself down for a nap to escape the drama of it all.

She’s gentle and kind, silly and sweet.  She doesn’t give us much of an attitude, so I’ll savor that while it lasts.  She’s always been very laid back and tuned into other’s feelings, putting her little hands on my cheeks and expressing her love when she knows I need it most.  Comforting others when they are sad or upset, patting their back with a soft, hushed, “It’s ok…it’s ok…” as a form of love.

She’s probably going to be a Tom Boy…wearing princess dresses and stomping in mud puddles, dressing up as Wonder Women or Super Girl and flying with her arms outstretched around the house to counter Jack’s Batman.  The girl knows what she wants at 2.5, and I can only hope and pray that she continues to go after her desires and dreams the older she gets.  And should anyone ever dull her shine, you can bet there will be one mad Daddy on their hands.
